Dear Reader

My name is Ameena and I LOVE FOOD in fact I think I my love of food has reached an obsessive level. To me food is not only a vital resource it’s a passion and something that gives me great joy. Like any normal person I want to live a healthy lifestyle, and combining my love of food with my desire to be fit has been the realest STRUGGLE.

 

Being a millennial my first point of call when I need help is the internet and if you search online you will find a trillion blogs about living a healthy lifestyle. But none of those blogs have ever felt relatable to me. There all the same narrative, perfect skinny lady, with a pet dog, who works out every single day, cooks with the most expensive ingredients and never eats chicken wings. One part of me says “Ameena if you want to be healthy you have to be like these women”. The other part of me says “No Ameena, how about you find your OWN way”. I decided to listen to the other me and make my own way and Ameena’s Heathy Kitchen (AHK) was born.

My personal philosophy is “life is too short to not eat cake”, I do treat myself when I feel like and I refuse to feel guilty about it. I’m not perfect, my diet isn’t perfect my lifestyle isn’t perfect and I am not here to promote healthy perfectionism. I am here to promote what I call ‘healthy gradualism’ which is the process of achieving a healthy lifestyle through gradual changes.

I want to show you that healthy eating doesn’t have to be perfect, or expensive or boring. It can be cheap, fun and tasty and you don’t have to completely give up the things you love. I believe the key to living a healthy lifestyle is simply making intelligent food choices and practising moderation, consistency and balance.
